Many of you email in volunteering your time and efforts to promote this program in your individual communities and ask what specifically you can do to help.  Ok, here are a few suggestions:

Talk to Your Friends - Of course one of the easiest and best ways to help out right now is to just simply talk to as many of your friends and associates as you can about our program and web site and encourage them to get involved.  Please be sure to tell them about our web site and, if possible, send us their name, address phone number and email address.

Neighborhood Canvassing - Going door-to-door and asking people what they think about our health care system can provide some extremely valuable information for HR676.org, Inc.  If they agree that some major changes need to be made just ask "Well what would you think if we just expanded Medicare to include everything and everybody.  We'd all pay a reasonable amount but everybody would be covered.  Would you be in favor of something like that?"  Most people will say "yes" and if they do, please tell them about our web site and send us their name, address phone number and email address if at all possible.  That's it... pretty simple right?

Click on the flier image below to bring up the PDF version.  Print it out and take it to your local office store and print out copies (B&W ok) to pass out on the street or in your neighborhood.  Remember, it is illegal to leave fliers on or in private US Postal Service mailboxes.  Also, leaving fliers on cars is NOT recommended.  It may be illegal in your community and besides, people hate it.

Public Speaking - If you are a member of a group or organization, perhaps you could ask for a few minutes at an upcoming meeting to give a brief presentation about HR676.org and explain our plan to advertise the Conyers bill and help assure its passage.  Be sure to take some literature with you about HR676.org, Inc.  Let us know in advance so that we can send you some.  Now when giving a presentation to a group its always a good idea to start off with a joke related to your topic.  Here's a couple you can use if you like:

PHONE CALLS - If you care to spend some time on the phone promoting our cause to  some of the folks in your local area just jump into the white pages and have at it.  Give it a try, it's easier than you think.  Here is a suggested script that you can use:

Hi, my name is _____ and I’m a volunteer with the Citizens Alliance for National Health Insurance.

I hope I’m not disturbing you, I just wanted to ask you a brief question, and that is simply this; if we could expand Medicare into a program that would cover everybody and everything for much less than what most people are now paying for private health insurance would you be in favor of something like that?

If NO - then you can say “well thanks for your time” and move on or if they sound like they might be a little open minded, just ask them why would that be?  Try to focus any discussion on benefits as much as possible. [see home page for details]

If YES -

Well I thought that’s what you’d say, in fact just about everybody does, and you may be surprised to know that there actually IS a bill in Congress RIGHT NOW that would do just exactly that.  It’s called House Resolution 676 or just HR676 for short and if you want to know more about it and possibly even help to get it passed please go to www.HR676.org and see what you think.

That’s basically why I called; you see the main problem with getting this legislation passed is that nobody knows that it even exists and we're working hard to try to do something about that.

BLOGS - If you are a blogger, locate as many health insurance related sites and let them know about our program and goals.  Here is a suggested sample:

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR - This is pretty easy to do.  Just go to the editorial page of your local paper or papers and there will be instructions on how to submit these letters.  Very often the paper will have a web site where this can be done on line. Here is a suggested text that you can use:

Health care reform; we’ve been talking about it for over 50 years now. Well, the time for talking is over and the time for action is NOW.  There is currently a bill in congress that will finally create single-payer national health insurance in America simply by expanding and improving Medicare, one of the best and most efficient medical management systems in the world.  It’s called House Resolution (H.R.) 676.  This new, improved Medicare will cover everybody and everything, including all of your prescription medications, at prices that we can all afford.  You choose your own doctors and hospitals.  There are no more co-pays, deductibles or exclusions.  It’s what we’ve all been waiting for, and the best part is that this new program will cost less than the dysfunctional and overly expensive private health insurance system that we have now.  Naturally, the big health insurance corporations will try everything to stop H.R. 676 from becoming law but we CAN fight back if we all join hands and work together.  Please help in any way that you can.  Go to www.HR676.org to find out how.
